SEGA will release an anime short film to celebrate Sonic's 35th anniversary — promo revealed
At Anime Expo, SEGA announced a short animated film called Sonic the Hedgehog: Memories And Beyond (fans are unofficially calling it "Sonic: Memories and Beyond"). They dropped the first promo trailer, which shows Sonic and his gang going up against Dr. Eggman — Sonic vs. Eggman, basically — and, somewhat predictably, Eggman has managed to build a robot double: Metal Sonic. Eggman’s motive in the clip is blunt: snag Sonic’s DNA to fashion what he hopes will be a flawless weapon (i.e., a living, engineered fighter). The premiere is slated towards the end of this year, though no exact date has been announced yet — so, wait-and-see for now.
Also worth noting: a feature-length live-action film — the fourth theatrical entry in “Sonic the Hedgehog” — is in the pipeline. Filming has wrapped, and the team insists they’ve made the “BEST” Sonic movie yet. Whether that claim sticks with audiences (and critics) remains to be seen; I, for one, am curious and a little skeptical.
