Samsung Enhances Bixby with Advanced AI Model Integration

Instead of completely overhauling Bixby on its own technology base, Samsung has chosen a strategy similar to Apple's approach. The company has integrated powerful large language models (LLMs) from external developers, including Perplexity and DeepSeek, into its voice assistant.

The essence of this plan is that Bixby now sends complex requests to external AI systems for processing. This allows the assistant to exceed its previous capabilities: while it was previously adept only at handling basic smartphone management commands, it can now answer complex questions and perform intelligent tasks.

In a similar vein to Apple's plans to update Siri (which is expected to use Google’s specialized AI model with 1.2 trillion parameters), Samsung is focusing on partnerships with leading AI developers. If this collaboration materializes, users will be able to activate enhanced features using the voice command "Hey Plex." Although this is technically possible on any Android device, Samsung seems to focus on optimizing functionality specifically for its Galaxy smartphones.

During a detailed examination of One UI 8.5, Galaxy Techie demonstrated how Bixby's integration with Perplexity and DeepSeek works in real-time. The key innovation is the Bixby Live mode, which greatly expands the assistant's capabilities. Bixby now includes eight specialized agents, each tailored for specific scenarios: from conducting virtual tours and simulating interviews to promoting positivity, storytelling, and helping with clothing selection. A separate module is dedicated to English language practice.

The assistant’s functionality has been significantly enriched. Users can now generate podcasts, images, videos, and documents using AI. The system can analyze multiple files at once, whether they are images or text documents. Bixby is now capable of providing detailed, comprehensive answers to complex questions and tracking and analyzing notifications as they appear—both in the status bar and on the lock screen.

Other innovations include "deep thinking" features, allowing the assistant to build logical chains, intelligent task execution, mind mapping based on documents, AI-generated music playback, and tools for improving conversational English.
