Rumors suggest Chinese company Meizu is winding down smartphone production

Rumors about the future of Meizu are actively spreading across Chinese social media and specialized media. Insiders claim the brand may cease smartphone production, and its flagship model, the Meizu 23, which was officially confirmed just a few months ago, risks never reaching the market.

According to Chinese media reports, Meizu's mobile division is effectively ceasing to exist. It is reportedly planned to be officially delisted from the stock exchange in March 2026. The main reasons cited are millions in debts that have been accumulating since April 2025, as well as a general crisis in the components market. The situation is exacerbated by rising chip and memory prices in the second half of 2026—making the release of new models unprofitable.

The most detailed information appeared on the Chinese professional platform Maimai. An anonymous employee, presumably from the Xingji Meizu structure, reported several important details. According to them, smartphone production is being halted, the development team and related departments are facing complete staff reductions, and the development of the Meizu 23 has been frozen.

The situation is further compounded by a warning from the well-known insider Digital Chat Station from early February. He noted that rising component prices would seriously impact manufacturers—some vendors have already frozen the development of flagship models. Meizu, which already lags behind giants like Xiaomi and Oppo, could become the first victim of this crisis.

As of now, there is no official statement from the Xingji Meizu press service. The lack of denials and the fact that reports from different sources align with each other lend serious credibility to the leak. However, for now, these remain rumors—it's important to wait for the company's official position.
