Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has officially denied rumors about a delay for physical copies of GTA 6. Responding to a question about the possibility of a digital-only release, he stated: "That is not our plan."

Rumors about problems with the discs emerged at the end of January. An insider connected to distribution reported that the publisher was allegedly considering a digital-only launch to prevent leaks. Various sources cited different delay periods—from 3–4 weeks to the beginning of 2027.

Take-Two's concerns are justified: before the release of GTA 5 in 2013, a map from the boxed version of the game was leaked, and some players gained access to the game ahead of schedule.
