Resident Evil Veronica Producer Explained Why the Game Lost Subtitles and Stopped Being a Spin-Off

The reveal at Summer Game Fest 2026 took a lot of people by surprise. Capcom seems to be sprinting: folks are still digging through Resident Evil Requiem, and already the studio is lining up the next big release for 2027.

What grabbed attention online was the name — short, stark, missing the old staples Code and Remake. Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi addressed that in a Q&A, tracing the choice back to how RE2 split its story between Leon and Claire. Leon’s thread later dominated entries like RE4, RE6 and Requiem, so when Claire’s continuation showed up in the original Code: Veronica many players treated it as a side detour rather than part of the main sequence.

Dropping the extra words is meant to change that perception. Capcom frames Veronica as a proper, in‑line chapter in Claire’s saga — not a peripheral spin‑off. At least, that’s how the team is pitching it to fans.

There’s a practical angle too: single‑word titles have become the studio’s go‑to for flagship releases (RE7 = Biohazard; RE8 = Village; RE9 = Requiem). Veronica fits that pattern neatly, and it’s easier to stamp into marketing. The game is slated for 2027 and will come to PC and current‑generation consoles.
