Remake of Bloodborne: Don't Hold Your Breath Anymore – Bluepoint Studio's Closure Puts an End to the Idea
Don't Wait for a Bloodborne Remake Anymore: Bluepoint Studio Closure Dashes the Idea
Sony has closed Bluepoint Studio, known for the remakes of Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus. Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier revealed details of the team's final months and explained why the much-anticipated Bloodborne remake, which fans had been waiting for years, never happened.
Following the cancellation of the live-service God of War in January 2025, Sony was seeking a new direction for the studio. Bluepoint proposed several ideas. One of them was a Bloodborne remake. According to sources, the numbers added up, and the project promised to be commercially viable, but FromSoftware opposed it. The Japanese studio did not give the green light.
The studio also tried to find common ground with other PlayStation teams. In particular, Bluepoint suggested working on a Ghost of Tsushima spin-off, but the idea did not find support. Other studios, it is noted, were not eager to allocate resources to an external project.
Tension within the team was growing. When Sony announced the God of War remake trilogy without Bluepoint's involvement, many perceived it as an alarming signal. A week later, the studio was closed.
