Producer of Kingdom Come: Deliverance Believes "True Gamers" Don't Care About Agendas — But He's Wrong, and History Proves It
The Kingdom Come: Deliverance series is frequently at the center of ideological debates. The first game was criticized by Western journalists for its lack of representation, while the second faced backlash from gamers for its opposite approach: featuring a non-traditional romance and a Black character.
Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klíma stated in an interview with PC Gamer that all this noise hardly impacts the fate of games. According to him, scandals are a double-edged sword: they bring additional attention but distract from the actual product. Klíma believes these debates concern only a small group of internet activists and hardly intersect with the main gaming audience. Instead of demoralizing the team, the controversies united them, creating a "fortress under siege" effect.
However, recent history clearly shows that games focusing on this supposedly "unimportant" DEI and woke agenda often fail.
