Federal Authorities Granted Legal Right to Shut Down Internet and Communications in Russia at Their Discretion
Vladimir Putin has signed a law obliging communication operators to shut down services upon request from the FSB. The document was published on the official legal acts portal and introduces amendments to the "On Communications" law. According to the changes, operators are required to suspend services upon receiving corresponding demands from the FSB. Specific cases for applying this measure will be determined by presidential regulatory acts.
Important Addition: Operators are exempt from liability to subscribers if service disruptions are caused by compliance with the special service's demands.
Previously, the Ministry of Digital Development explained that the amendments are necessary for rapid response to security threats, including drone attacks, and to protect operators from lawsuits by customers.
