"Playing Games, Reading Comics" — Sophie Turner on Preparing for the Role of Lara Croft
Sophie Turner is actively preparing for the role of Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider series adaptation by Amazon. The actress spoke about it on The Julia Cunningham Show.
According to Turner, she is playing the Tomb Raider games and reading the comics, but she is not rewatching the previously released films about the tomb raider. She wants to portray the heroine in her own way, not repeat old iterations.
I'm playing the games, reading the comics, including the huge 500-page Colossal Collections. I'm trying to cover everything, but I'm not fixating on the existing versions because my task is not to copy, but to create something original. Because of this, even though I adore the old movies, I have to avoid them for now.

It is worth noting that there are currently three Tomb Raider films: two starring Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft and one where the brave adventurer is portrayed by Alicia Vikander. There is also an animated series from Netflix titled "Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft", the second and final season of which was released in December 2025.
But knowledge of Lara Croft's adventures alone is not enough for the lead role, so Sophie Turner is training hard. Since February 2025, the actress has been spending eight hours a day in the gym, five days a week. She also admitted that during this time, she discovered chronic back problems.
"I also learned that muscles grow much faster if you've done any sports before. I never did. So it took me many, many long months to get in shape," the actress said, noting that she didn't need to train for "Game of Thrones".
Production of the Tomb Raider series is set to begin in mid-January. A premiere date for the adaptation has not been announced yet. Recently, Amazon revealed the names of the actors attached to the series. Joining Sophie Turner will be Jason Isaacs, Sigourney Weaver, and others.
