Overview Trailer for John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando — a Zombie Shooter from Saber
John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is another attempt to build upon the ideas of the great Left 4 Dead. The chances of success are above zero: the project is handled by Saber Interactive, the creators of the solid World War Z. The developers shared information about the upcoming game in a new video. Read on for the key points.
- Toxic Commando is an action game with survival elements, designed for four players. Each mission takes place in a semi-open world.
- The game is built on the Swarm engine, which powers World War Z and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II. This means that in Toxic Commando, you will face giant hordes of monsters — hundreds of creatures will flood the screen.
- Saber doesn't just make action games, but also off-road driving simulators like SnowRunner. This experience came in handy for the team here as well — the squad of survivors roams the levels in a vehicle, periodically winching it out of mud and gore. The containers scattered here and there contain not only guns and ammo but also fuel canisters.
- In addition to the starting vehicle, which you must choose before a mission, there are other cars abandoned in the locations. For instance, you can switch to an ambulance to heal the heroes.
- The developers promise 16 types of primary weapons — shotguns, submachine guns, sniper rifles, and so on. Melee weapons like machetes and crowbars are also present. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to obtain heavy weapons, such as a grenade launcher.
- Toxic Commando features four character classes — Assault, Defender, Medic, and Technician with drones. There is no limit on the number of characters from the same class — if you want, the entire quartet can play as Medics.
It's better to exterminate the undead with friends, but matchmaking will allow you to team up with strangers as well.
The zombie genocide in John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando begins on March 12. Platforms are PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. Cross-play is supported. The shooter will have Russian localization — though text-only.
To reiterate, John Carpenter's name is in the game's title for a reason — the famous director and composer wrote the story and music for Toxic Commando.
