Only 20% of Developers Want to Make Games for Xbox
A GDC survey has shown that developer interest in Xbox has sharply declined: only 20% of studios choose the platform. For comparison, 80% are considering PC, 40% PS5, and 39% the Nintendo Switch 2. This reflects a systemic problem: Xbox is losing on key parameters for studios — audience reach, profitability, and accessibility. Microsoft's strategy is shifting towards multiplatform releases, but even among portable devices, preference is given to the Steam Deck over Windows-based solutions. Xbox risks becoming a niche platform.
