Not Just a Tuxedoed Hitman: How IO Interactive's New Bond Will Surprise Fans

Not just a tuxedoed hitman how io interactives new bond will surprise fans

IO Interactive continues to unveil details about 007 First Light. In an interview with Game Informer, Game Director Andreas Krogh explained how the studio is reimagining the Hitman formula for the new Bond.

The core principle is belief in player choice. Levels are built to instantly offer options: a door, a crowd, an alternate route. Gadgets add unpredictability: a smoke grenade will make enemies cough and reduce visibility, but will it work perfectly?

Stealth remains the foundation, but combat is no longer a backup option. Taking inspiration from Batman: Arkham and Uncharted, IO Interactive went further: an explosion can collapse a structure, opening a new path.

A key innovation is de-escalation. If you are discovered, you can talk your way out, throw a smoke grenade and escape to melt back into the shadows. In a firefight, there will only be a couple of opponents. The enemy spawn system depends on the player's position, eliminating shots in the back.

A particular point of pride is the driving. IO Interactive has created a style of "arcade realism": spectacular chases with drifting and destruction.

007 First Light will be released on PC and next-generation consoles on May 27, 2026.
