Neil Newbon is ready to return to the role of Astarion from Baldur's Gate 3 on any screen
Who would have thought that the vampire aesthete from Baldur's Gate 3 would become the main heartthrob not only in the Forgotten Realms, but also in the hearts of players? Yes, we're talking about our beloved Astarion, brilliantly (and with a hint of fangs) portrayed by Neil Newbon. And you know what? The actor is clearly not ready to say goodbye to this role — even if it means stepping out of the shadows in live-action format.
On the Ready, Aim, Fire podcast, Newbon enthusiastically declared that he "of course" wants to return to Astarion, with the enthusiasm of a vampire at a cocktail party. And this despite the fact that Larian Studios is not yet eager to make Baldur's Gate 4 (although Hasbro, apparently, is already estimating the budget for the sequel). But Neil is not discouraged: "I would love to play him in live action. Fortunately, I look like him," he added modestly, clearly holding back a smile. The conversation about the similarity between the actor and the character turned into a mini-investigation. Newbon admitted that over time, the characters in the game began to suspiciously resemble their performers. As an example, he cited the gypsy Laisel, whose appearance, in his words, is pure Deborah Wilde: "Deborah Wilde, definitely, Laisel looks like her. It's crazy, because the nose is so randomly and wildly different!" The actor suggested that the developers simply "tailored the appearance to us," although no scanning of the actors was done. The animators worked with video recordings of facial expressions, which gave them complete freedom: "They could make the characters as similar or different as they wanted.". And, apparently, they decided not to go too far with the differences. When the conversation turned to a possible live-action adaptation of Baldur's Gate 3, Newbon switched into vampire-spy mode: "You're asking me to say something I absolutely cannot say? Definitely not, I'm not going to talk about that." Apparently, the secrets are kept under lock and key — or, more likely, under seven coffins. While Neil Newbon is busy with his new horror game Dead Take, fans can take comfort in one thing: if Astarion ever appears on screen, the actor already has the perfect plan — just show up and be himself.
