Mount blade 2 bannerlord now features naval raids alliances and full scale naval warfare

The developers of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord rolled out the War Sails v1.2.5 patch, and naval stuff is no longer a mere backdrop. You can now launch full-on coastal raids that feel properly Viking — landing parties, shoreline fighting, the whole chaotic bit.

Raids happen on both the global map and in individual battles. Ships can put troops straight onto the beach, then the assault begins; conversely, bring the wrong hull and you’ll be stuck (e.g., deep-keel ships aren’t great for rivers or shallow inlets). Fleet composition matters — more than I expected, actually.

There’s a noticeable change in AI behavior. Lords take to sea routes more often, they’ll attack trade convoys and stage coastal raids. The result: the ocean stops being just “a big blue texture” and starts behaving like…water with intent. It’s a small thing that shifts the whole map’s vibe.

New hulls, armor, and squad roles arrived too — navigator, first mate, etc. Diplomacy saw some tweaks as well: states that don’t share borders won’t keep declaring meaningless “paper wars,” and alliances/trade pacts actually influence decisions now (NB: this affects campaign flow more than you might notice at first).

Sieges and fights got adjustments. Auto battles don’t hand cavalry an easy win anymore; spearmen are more threatening vs. riders, and two-handed maces literally send foes flying off their feet. I chuckled watching a mounted charge get cut down — messy, effective, and a bit theatrical.

Fans who’ve waited since Warband will recognize the direction. This patch nudges Bannerlord closer to that sandbox feel, though it’s still a work in progress — progress that’s sometimes slow and occasionally delightful.
