Most Anticipated RPGs of 2026

Something terrible has been happening in recent years to the most noble genre of video games, the role-playing game. Namely: its boundaries have expanded so much due to mindless publishers and developers who would sell their own mother for marketing that now everything is being crammed into RPGs: from turn-based gacha or survival games to adventure action games like "Genshin Impact" and its endless clones, as well as soulslike games. And players are happy to lap up this slop and ask for seconds. There are few studios left in the gaming industry that strictly adhere to the genre's canons and can proudly call their products "role-playing video games." Therefore, we have no choice: this selection will include not only canonical RPGs but also other genres with role-playing elements that are now being classified as role-playing games.

Solasta 2

  • Release Date: March 12, 2026 (early access).
  • Genre: Tactical RPG.

Solasta 2 is a direct sequel to the tactical RPG. Create a party of four heroes with unique backgrounds and set out for the wild continent of Neokos, open for free exploration on a hex-based map. Your mission is to stop the ancient witch Shadwin, whose dark power spreads corruption. Fight in turn-based battles, use flexible multiclassing, and test your tactics in cooperative mode. The game, based on the updated SRD 5.2 rules, remains true to the spirit of tabletop adventures: you make decisions, but the final outcome is determined by an honest dice roll. Early access begins on March 12, 2026.

The Blood of Dawnwalker

  • Release Date: Possibly sometime in 2026.
  • Genre: Action with RPG elements.

A small note: although the developers from Rebel Wolves promote this game precisely as an RPG, they themselves say that in many ways it resembles The Witcher 3. And the third "Witcher" is an action game with a deep role-playing slant, not a purebred role-playing game (oh, I sense the burning...). And for this reason, I'm classifying The Blood of Dawnwalker as an ARPG. 14th-century Europe. A continent bled dry by wars is being finished off by the Black Death. Vampires emerge from the shadows to seize freedom and power. Legends become reality. You are Kain, a Dawnwalker, existing on the edge of day and night. Fight for your humanity or embrace the cursed power to save your family. Is the soul of those you love worth it? Your choice determines the fate of the world. Save your family or seek revenge? Act swiftly or bide your time? Go alone or seek allies? Live in two worlds—vampire and human. Change form, use different powers. Every decision you make changes the world; time is relentless.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn

  • Release Date: Probably 2026.
  • Genre: Adventure RPG.

Immediately after its announcement and the demonstration of the first gameplay footage, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn was dubbed the new Mass Effect. But there's an important nuance: we still haven't been shown or properly told what exactly in this game will pertain to the role-playing component. I think it's actually not an RPG at all, but an action game with character progression. Will there be key narrative choices that drastically change the story? Will there be role differentiation, or are we all playing a brave soldier, like Shepard? For now, it's a terrible secret. The game's description states that our team is a key element of the gameplay. So, at least we can hope for interesting personal stories.

Fable

  • Release Date: There is hope for 2026.
  • Genre: Adventure RPG.

A reboot of the atmospheric role-playing adventure, created by the gaming industry's chief storyteller, Peter Molyneux. But without the Armageddon frying pan, if you know what I mean. What turns a person into a Hero? In the fairytale land of Albion, only you can give the answer. Here, the rumor of your deeds runs ahead of you, and your decisions determine whether the kingdom will withstand the coming darkness. Very little is known about the game, although it was announced several years ago. The developers promise a deep look at the reimagined key features of the series: choice, consequences, drama, action, and signature British humor. The project by Playground Games, apparently, will preserve the spirit of the original trilogy but will offer modern gameplay and impressive scale.

Crimson Desert

  • Release Date: March 20, 2026.
  • Genre: Adventure action with RPG elements.

My heart screams, my mind boils, but I will still add Crimson Desert to this selection of role-playing games, not action games. Although there is no doubt that there won't be more "role-playing" in this game than in its older sister—the MMORPG Black Desert. Even the developers themselves write on Steam that it's an action adventure, but PR people and advertising agencies stubbornly promote this game as an RPG. The Gray Wolves clan has been crushed by sworn enemies. The survivors are scattered, and only revenge drives Cliff forward. His goal is to gather the surviving brothers and reclaim what was lost. But the continent of Pywel holds trials he never dared to imagine. Welcome to a world where all paths are open. Vast plains, ancient ruins, and bustling cities await their explorer. Travel on horseback, lead a dragon into battle, or control a wondrous machine. There are no templates for victory here. Sword, spear, or bow—choose your weapon and create your own fighting style. Fate in a brutal clash is often decided by one precise strike.

Fatekeeper

  • Release Date: We really want it in 2026!
  • Genre: ARPG.

The Germans must not let us down! The credit of expectations for Fatekeeper is enormous, as this game has declared itself the heir to the magnificent Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. With the only difference being that now we will get an ARPG with a first-person view, but with progression, "dress your doll," and all that. Judging by screenshots and videos, the game will look gorgeous, and the physics-based combat will be the killer feature that has been sorely missing since 2006 (!!!). Open Fatekeeper—a world where history is written by your decisions. The hero's path is defined by your choice: blade, magic, or ancient artifacts. Explore lands bearing the scars of past catastrophes and discover forgotten secrets. Create a unique hero by choosing combat styles and schools of magic. Fight intelligent opponents, each with their own weaknesses and tactics. Change your approach: fierce close-quarters combat or precise magical strikes. Your equipment is the key to victory. Combine weapons, armor, and artifacts, creating gear for your path. In Fatekeeper, only you decide what legend you will leave behind.

Gothic 1 Remake

  • Release Date: Q1 2026.
  • Genre: RPG.

The first classic role-playing game on this list. From the annoying realization...
