NORSE: Oath of Blood Receives Major Update Aimed at Fixing Most Issues
The developers of the game NORSE: Oath of Blood have released a major update that touches on almost all aspects of the project: from performance and the combat system to the interface, audio, and visual effects.
- The team optimized texture memory usage and Level of Detail (LOD) settings for the environment, characters, and lighting—this has noticeably improved the game's overall performance. Nanite rendering technology has been activated for certain weapon types.
- Numerous crashes and freezes that occurred when loading saves, including in the missions "A Debt of Blood" and "Battle of the Borg," have been fixed.
- A special pre-combat save system has been added: it triggers when deploying a squad and is not overwritten by standard autosaves or quick saves.
- To avoid file corruption and progress issues, saving during video playback has now been disabled.
- Damage, Action Point (AP) costs, and cooldown times for a number of abilities, including "Bear Swipe," "Death’s Kiss," and "Ullr’s Arrow," have been rebalanced.
- The ability sets and equipment for the characters Gunnar and Sigrid have been adjusted.
- Fixed a bug where identical consumable items or abilities incorrectly shared a global cooldown and were consumed simultaneously.
- Fixed the calculations and display of preview values for momentum and Action Points (AP) in combat.
- Improved the "At The Gates" mechanic: target selection errors, accidental double-clicks, and animation crashes have been eliminated.
- Several combat animations have been updated using motion capture technology—this has eliminated visual artifacts and improved image quality.
- Improved enemy AI behavior, their target selection, and encounter pacing in a number of missions, including "Training With a View," "Into the Lair of the Beast," and "Battle of the Borg."
- Resolved issues with the navigation mesh and collisions: units no longer fall through the terrain or exit the playable area.
- Fixed collision triggers and quest states that could previously block progress or lead to the absence of enemies.
- The smoothness of transitions between gameplay, real-time cutscenes, and pre-rendered videos has also been improved—this has made mission progression more comfortable.
- Adjusted the village economy balance: resource requirements for certain workplaces have been changed.
- Fixed issues with movement paths and visual artifacts in the central village area, especially around the docks.
- Added and refined idle animations for characters at various workplaces (e.g., the blacksmith and the seamstress).
- Fixed a logic error in the tutorial that caused in-game time to slow down or the game to freeze when closing the tutorial window.
- Resolved an issue with incorrect saving of graphics settings (including gore display settings) on launch.
- Cleaned up interface tooltips, ability previews, and button hints for keyboard/mouse and controller input.
- Performed extensive localization fixes: missing text strings have been translated and inconsistencies in the German and Norwegian versions of the game have been resolved.
- Rebalanced audio mixing in a number of missions: adjusted the volume of environmental effects (wind, water, weather) relative to dialogue and music.
- Added missing sound triggers for combat actions, cutscene events, and environmental interactions.
- Improved lighting, camera angles, and depth of field in several cinematic scenes.
- Adjusted cutscene animations to visually display the exact weapons the player has chosen for their character.
