Marvel's Wolverine will not tell a boring origin story of Wolverine
The team at Insomniac Games chose to sidestep Hollywood-style origin retreads and ditched the usual "how-it-all-began" setup in the upcoming action title Marvel's Wolverine. Rather than easing players in with backstory, the game drops you straight into the action.
Creative director Marcus Smith told reporters that, at the outset, adamantium is already fused to Logan's bones — i.e., the metal is part of him before the story really gets going. Logan himself can't recall many details of his past, and the writers deliberately avoid rehashing the familiar origin beats. The opening scene offers only a brief sequence in the woods where he runs into Nathaniel Essex; after that, the narrative jumps forward in time.
Pieces of comic lore are scattered through the game to give the setting texture and movement, not to lecture the player. Insomniac used a similar approach in its Spider-Man titles, and here those nods (e.g., visual callbacks, minor characters) do more to animate the world than to slow the pace — which, oddly enough, feels like a relief.
