Leak revealed the next release on Epic Games Store: Tactical autobattler Mechabellum
Information about the next free title on the Epic Games Store surfaced online ahead of schedule: insiders say Mechabellum will be available to claim free from September 24 to October 1.
The leak, reported by Notebookcheck and other publications, arrived before an official Epic Games Store announcement that had been planned for September 17.
Mechabellum launched in its full version in September 2024 following an early access period. On Steam the Game River–developed title, published by Paradox Arc, has accumulated more than 17,000 reviews and holds a "very positive" rating. Paradox Arc handled publishing outside China, and the project later gained the support of Dreamhaven, the studio founded by former Blizzard head Mike Morhaime.
Described by its creators as "chess with mechs," Mechabellum is an autobattler that prioritizes tactical planning over twitch reactions. Players set up unit tech trees before combat and then unlock upgrades during matches; the design encourages anticipating opponents and building counter-strategies. Examples of the system include transforming snipers into machines specialized for clearing swarms and outfitting heavy tanks with charges for self-destruction.
The game's lead developer, using the pseudonym Bearlike, told an interviewer he drew inspiration from Warcraft 3 maps and aimed to build a strategy "where the smartest, not the strongest, wins." Reviewers have echoed that sentiment, noting Mechabellum delivers the rare satisfaction of reward for well-considered decisions in modern multiplayer.
