Retro PC on the Outside, a Gaming Beast Inside — Maingear Unveils Retro98

Maingear has decided to play on the nostalgia of those who remember the era of LAN parties and massive monitors taking up half a desk by unveiling its Retro98 series of gaming computers. On the outside, it's a classic beige system unit from 1998, but inside lurks the most modern and powerful hardware, including the latest Ryzen 9850X3D processors and NVIDIA graphics cards up to the RTX 5090. There is also a junior version of the pre-built system with an RTX 5070, which is the only configuration among the four Retro98 builds to feature an Intel processor.

The appearance of the system units is recreated with manic attention to detail. The SilverStone FLP02 case flaunts the characteristic color, the front panel boasts a working "Turbo" button (it switches the fans to maximum speed mode) and even a green LED frequency indicator. To complete the picture, the developers used classic cables with red-yellow braiding, which were standard in the nineties and today look like a stylish vintage element.

Of course, exclusivity comes at a price. The base version with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265K and RTX 5070 will cost $2,500, while the flagship Alpha build with an R9 9950X3D and RTX 5090 will set you back nearly $10,000.
