Larian Vows Not to Use AI for Creating Divinity
Larian Studios, the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3, held an extensive AMA session on Reddit to clarify their stance on AI. Studio head Swen Vincke and lead developers clarified their position regarding the next Divinity installment.
Swen Vincke stated emphatically: "There will be no AI-generated art in Divinity." The studio has decided to completely exclude the use of neural networks, even in concept art, to eliminate any doubts about the origin of the game's visual style.
Vincke previously admitted that developers experimented with AI for quick visualization of ideas and placeholder creation. However, following criticism and industry scandals (such as the disqualification of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 due to missing AI assets at launch), Larian tightened their rules: AI can no longer be used even for internal sketches.
The developers emphasized that they value their artists and writers for their unique human perspective, which can't be replicated by machines. Swen noted that using AI for "exploring ideas" did not lead to increased speed or efficiency, so the studio is returning to traditional methods.
