Larian Held a Detailed Q&A Session on the RPG Divinity

After the monumental success of Baldur's Gate 3, Larian Studios shifted its focus to a new project — the RPG Divinity. In a recent Q&A session, studio head Swen Vincke and his team shared fresh details about the development.

Although production is in full swing, there is no release date or even a gameplay showcase window yet. The developers are ambitious, promising that the new Divinity will surpass Baldur's Gate 3 in role-playing freedom, depth of decision-making consequences, and overall quality. Players can expect a fully original role-playing system, not bound by tabletop rules.

Specific innovations include a manual loot selection (as in BG3), support for co-op and mods from launch, and a significantly updated Divinity Engine. Developers hinted at the addition of a long-awaited mechanic missing in previous games (fans speculate it might be swimming). However, some elements from the past, like the magical armor system from Original Sin 2, have been discarded.

The game will feature a more detailed character editor, a new development system, and "combat economy." Larian also aims to optimize the project for portable devices, including the Steam Deck and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

The tentative release period for Divinity is no earlier than 2027-2028. The studio promises a cinematic narrative, unprecedented variability, and an independent large-scale story.
