Instagram* Hacked, Data of 17.5 Million Users Stolen

A data leak affecting approximately 17.5 million Instagram* accounts has been discovered online. According to information from Malwarebytes, the compromised files were published on the dark web on January 7, 2026.

The leaked data contains user names, email addresses, phone numbers, and partial physical addresses. While passwords were not disclosed, this information poses a serious threat for targeted phishing and account takeover.

Meta*, the owner of Instagram, has not yet confirmed the incident. Experts recommend that users enable two-factor authentication, set strong passwords, and ignore suspicious messages claiming to be from the service.

  • Meta and Instagram are banned in the Russian Federation.
