Insider: Crystal Dynamics is working on a Lord of the Rings game
Last fall, Insider Gaming staff announced that Embracer and Revenge were reportedly developing a large-scale game set in The Lord of the Rings, with backing from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO).
About six months after that, new tips learned by the same outlet pointed to Crystal Dynamics joining the project. The leak says this effort is running alongside Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst — development in parallel, apparently.
Details remain thin. Gulf investors have allegedly put in approx. $100 million (est.), and the game is being positioned as a third-person action title that should "compete with Hogwarts Legacy." If accurate, it's an ambitious pitch — and one that raises more questions than answers.
Insider Gaming sources describe the project as having been underway "for some time," while the release is described as "still far away" (release date: TBA).
When pressed for confirmation, reps for Embracer stuck to the usual line about not commenting on rumors and speculation. Staff at Crystal Dynamics reportedly gave the same response.
