The Black Hand studio has released a new development diary that peels back one of the game's core systems — the equipment loop — in surprisingly concrete detail. The mystical, cursed frontier of The Dark West is where you'll trawl for gear: weapons (e.g., revolvers, shotguns) and odd little accessories like talismans and playing cards. Items come in eight tiers, shown as Roman numerals, and occupy one of four quality bands, from rusty up to flawless. Gear may carry up to six unique affix-modifiers — no dupes allowed (i.e., each modifier must be distinct). The studio also calls out "Masterpieces": very rare, fixed-bonus items that crafting won't alter. As for a Steam release date, that's still TBD; honestly, I'm curious to see how the loot feels in play once it arrives.
