"If the mechanics are inappropriate, we will not impose them" - the sequel to The Blood of Dawnwalker may not have a timer

If the mechanics are inappropriate we will not impose them the sequel to the blood of dawnwalker may not have a timer

The Blood of Dawnwalker, a new intellectual property developed by a team of veteran creators, has quickly become one of 2026’s most acclaimed role-playing games. The title shifted a million units within days of its launch and garnered broadly positive critical attention. On Steam the game holds a "Very Positive" rating, with 86% of users recommending it, despite a launch that many described as somewhat problematic.

Player feedback has not been uniformly glowing. A recurring point of contention centers on the game's time-limit mechanics—an element that divided opinion even when the title was first revealed. That system proved controversial enough that the most downloaded mod available on release day removed the time limits entirely.

Signs that Rebel Wolves may already be looking ahead are visible in recent job listings, which suggest work on a sequel could be in the studio’s plans. When Eurogamer asked whether the timer mechanic would return in future installments, director Konrad Tomashkevich replied:

To be honest, we haven’t made a final decision yet. We will experiment with this mechanic. If in the story – or in a part of it – it is appropriate, we will use it. But if the story moments do not imply such a limitation, we will not impose it forcibly. We will work with this system and try to use it to create a sense of urgency in certain gameplay events. But I’m not saying we will use the same scheme or cycle in every game – that’s not how it is.

Tomashkevich also indicated the team is exploring broader changes rather than sticking to conservative design choices:

We are also considering and exploring other, rather bold ideas that could change the RPG genre and surprise players in the future.

For now, Rebel Wolves remains focused on the current title—issuing patches, addressing bugs, and improving performance. The studio has mentioned plans for free expansions after release, but Tomashkevich has not yet provided a detailed roadmap. The Blood of Dawnwalker is available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
