HoYoverse intimidates insiders with its legal successes against leaks of Genshin Impact and other games

The developers of Genshin Impact published an interim tally of their campaigns against leaks and cheat-makers, and they included financial details: the total compensation awarded in suits involving insiders and people selling or using cheats has topped $5.38 million.

Working with police, the studio took part in 22 criminal prosecutions. On the civil side, it filed suits vs. 2,388 individuals; 1,240 of those people have publicly admitted guilt. Others — repeat leakers or those building cheats, e.g., repo hosts and sellers — may end up facing harsher consequences.

This drive isn’t just about press releases. It has turned up recoveries and confessions, i.e., legal relief and cash — not exactly charity, and hard to ignore from a business standpoint.
