Horror The Occultist about the Mysterious Disappearance of a Father to Release on April 8
Publisher Daedalic Entertainment and studio DALOAR announced that the psychological horror The Occultist will arrive on PC and consoles on April 8.
The base edition is priced at $29.99. If you want extra trimmings, the Deluxe edition goes for $39.99 and comes with a 200-page digital artbook plus the full soundtrack.
The story centers on paranormal investigator Alan Rebels, who sets out for Godstone Island to uncover what happened to his missing father. The old man kept bringing up the island over the years but left almost no clear trail—only the bare facts that it’s his birthplace and where he spent childhood days. Alan brings a curious tool: a mysterious pendulum of unknown origin that never leaves his side during investigations. Godstone greets him with fog-choked lanes and odd architecture that feels designed to unnerve. The deeper he goes, the less this looks like any case he’s handled before.
A darker history lingers: until 1950 the island housed members of a notorious cult who ran grim experiments and ritual work. After those events the place was deserted and remained that way for decades.
Alan will have to cope with spirits lingering in empty homes and on abandoned streets. Interactions vary—some entities respond if approached, others are best skirted. Gameplay emphasizes exploration; there’s no direct combat. Stealth is the default approach: avoid attention, move carefully. The pendulum grants four distinct abilities to interact with and change the environment. Puzzles appear too—some are solved quickly, some demand a deeper grasp of occult detail, i.e., you’ll need to think beyond simple trial-and-error.
The team says the game uses a cinematic first-person perspective and detailed visuals. Music is by Pepe Herrero, who has prior credits in film and game soundtracks.
Players on PC (Steam), Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5 can visit Godstone Island in The Occultist. A Russian text option exists. Also, the developers have released a demo so you can sample a slice of the island before committing.
