In Highguard, the 5v5 mode has been made permanent, but it hasn't saved the game from declining online player counts
Wildlight Entertainment has permanently implemented the 5v5 player mode in their shooter Highguard, which was initially a temporary experiment. The game launched with an unusual 3v3 format, which drew criticism for empty maps and a slow pace. In response, a trial 5v5 mode was launched.
According to the developers, during the test period, players were almost evenly split between the two formats, which became the basis for keeping the larger team size. The community has mostly reacted positively to the changes, noting the increased pace of gameplay.
However, this hasn't solved the project's systemic issues: Highguard continues to lose players, and the published roadmap has so far failed to restore trust in the game. In the last 24 hours, the peak concurrent player count was just over 8,000.
