Hedgehog Makes Money: Sonic Frontiers Sales Reach Five Million Copies
Sonic Team and SEGA say that sales of Sonic Frontiers have passed the 5 million mark — yes, 5M copies sold. The game first landed in 2022 on PC, PS4/PS5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch; more recently it showed up on Switch 2 as well. On Steam it holds an 89% positive rating and once peaked at about 19k concurrent players, making it the top-selling entry from the franchise on Valve’s store (only the free April Fools' release The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog comes close in attention).
Developers thanked fans with the line “We found our flame — and it’s you!”. Since the last sales update a year ago, roughly 430k more copies have been sold — not a tiny bump, but also not meteoric, depending on how you look at it. SEGA didn’t stop at words: players received an in-game gift, the iconic shoes from Sonic Adventure 2, as a small token of thanks.
