Slay the Spire 2 Creators Want Gamers to Break Their Game
Lead programmer of Slay the Spire 2, Jake Card: First, the team comes up with cards that seem interesting to them, and then intuitively assigns them different values. At the initial stage, the developers test their ideas themselves, and then hand them over to testers. Cards are evaluated based on the amount of fun they provide as well as objective metrics, to avoid breaking the balance. Adjustments are made weekly.
"We hope you find ways to break the game! One of the beauties of card games is finding unexpected synergistic effects that make you unbeatable," Card noted.
According to him, if gamers find some incredibly powerful combinations, the developers will have the task of rebalancing them. He also explained that right now it is much more important for the Slay the Spire 2 team to maintain balance in the single-player mode rather than the cooperative one.
Recall that Slay the Spire 2 will launch in early access on March 5. The release of the new part of the well-known game scared many indie developers, and they moved their releases to another time.
Mega Crit co-founder and Slay the Spire co-author Casey Yano previously talked about which projects from small studios he has already played.
