Former Rockstar Developer Predicts the Arrival of the Ability to Earn Real Money in GTA 6 Online
Not long ago insiders suggested that the multiplayer component of Grand Theft Auto VI could borrow heavily from user-generated-content systems — in particular, online features similar to those used in Fortnite. A former Rockstar Games veteran has now expanded on that idea, outlining how an official creator ecosystem might work.
Joe Rubino, who served as lead cutscene developer on titles including GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3, told Eldorado.gg in an interview that GTA 6 Online could offer sanctioned tools allowing players to build role-playing content and earn real money from it. He argued that as the community matures, Rockstar may be pushed toward monetizing fan-made stories, scripts and virtual businesses:
If developers can create secure tools that keep player creativity within acceptable limits, Rockstar will definitely consider such a move. Why not allow fans to become a unified community that creates content, monetizes it, and receives a deserved share of the profits? — Rubino commented.
Rubino added that any official editor would come with strict safeguards to protect Rockstar’s intellectual property and canonical characters, and he expressed skepticism that such a monetization system would be a launch-day priority. He said the base world of Leonidas itself will already contain a “colossal amount of content.” Still, he sees clear interest from the studio in building a user-created ecosystem — a point reinforced by Rockstar’s previous job listings seeking candidates with deep familiarity with the Fortnite model, where creators receive a percentage tied to the popularity of their islands and modes.

Meanwhile, attention has also turned to the previous game ahead of GTA 6’s launch: it was reported that the main actors from GTA 5 will reunite for a final playthrough before the new entry arrives.
Official representatives of Rockstar Games and Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier have both stressed that detailed information about GTA 6’s online mode is unlikely to surface in the near term, leaving players to look ahead to the game’s release in November.
