Blood and oxygen of Zoomers and Alphas, TikTok has finally come under the control of American investors
Chinese ByteDance has completed the deal to transfer control of TikTok in the US to a new joint venture. The Chinese company will retain only 19.9% of the shares, while the controlling stake will go to American investors, including Oracle, Silver Lake, and MGX from Abu Dhabi.
The agreement is the result of a long standoff. Although Donald Trump previously sought to ban TikTok, his position changed after the 2024 election campaign, which demonstrated the platform's value to the youth audience. In his second term, he delayed the ban, allowing the parties to negotiate.
The technical infrastructure and data security of American users will now be provided by Oracle. The new JV will be managed by Adam Presser, and the board of directors, where the majority will be US citizens, will include TikTok founder Shou Zi Chew.
