All French Trade Unions to Strike Against Ubisoft in Retaliation for Ending Remote Work and Layoffs
According to reports from the French newspaper Les Echos, a large-scale strike against Ubisoft will take place in the country on February 10-12. It has been unanimously approved by all local trade unions associated with the video game industry. These include the Syndicat des travailleurs et travailleuses du jeu vidéo (STJV), Solidaires Informatique, CFE-CGC, CGT, and Printemps écologique, who are also urging colleagues from other countries to join in order to take the action to an international level.
The reason for the strike is the company's reorganization and mass layoffs, as well as the requirement for all employees to return to the office five days a week. The latter point has been deemed by the outraged developers and the unions representing them as "a disguised workforce reduction plan aimed at pushing employees out of the company." The layoffs are occurring against the backdrop of the creation of "a number of high-level positions with excessively high salaries."
