Final Fantasy 14 on Switch 2: Release Date and Subscription Details

At the Anaheim festival, Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy 14 is coming to Nintendo Switch 2. Beta testing kicks off in August 2026 and will be free; the full game, however, needs a separate subscription — i.e., the usual cross-platform entitlement won’t apply on Switch 2, though existing players will get a 50% discount. You won’t need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to play on the new hardware.

They also unveiled the sixth expansion, Evercold, slated for January 2027 (ETA Jan 2027). It sends adventurers to the icy reaches of the Fourth Reflection and introduces two new professions. Before that, patch 7.5 — “Trail to the Heavens” — arrives April 28 and is meant to set things up for the colder in-game season. Finally, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is scheduled to land on Switch 2 in June.
