The creator of Stardew Valley, Eric Barone, admitted in an interview with IGN that he can't completely stop supporting his game, although he has long planned to move on to a new project, Haunted Chocolatier.

"There have been many times when I thought the updates would end. But that doesn't happen, and perhaps the work will never be finished," Barone stated. He explains this with the game's enduring popularity: as long as people are playing it, he has the inspiration to develop it further.

At the same time, the developer does not rule out creating a full-fledged sequel. "I would really like to make Stardew Valley 2 — to create a new world and characters," he said. However, any plans for a continuation will only appear after the release of Haunted Chocolatier, which Barone humorously indicated would be "within the next 10 years."
