God of War: Laufey Screenshot Hints Kratos in Greece

New God of War: Laufey Screenshot Raises Chronology Questions Among Fans

Sony has released a fresh screenshot from God of War: Laufey that depicts Laufey alongside Kratos in what appears to be an ancient Greek temple setting. The image has quickly sparked speculation among fans, since its content seems difficult to reconcile with the established timeline of the series.

Pre-orders and Editions Incoming

Sony has also confirmed that pre-orders for God of War Laufey will open soon, with details about the game's editions, bonuses, and combat system now available.

A Timeline That Doesn't Add Up

The confusion stems from what players already know about these characters. Laufey passed away long before the events of the new game, and she and Kratos had not yet crossed paths during his time in Ancient Greece. On top of that, Laufey never traveled to Greece with Kratos. As a result, players are left trying to piece together what the screenshot is actually showing.

Kratos's Previous Appearances in the Game's Marketing

This is not the first time Kratos has shown up in God of War: Laufey material. The debut trailer featured him burning Laufey's body on a funeral pyre, a scene that takes place at the start of God of War (2018). Following her death, Laufey arrives in Eternity — an afterlife realm inhabited by gods from various mythologies — where Kratos briefly encounters her as well. The new screenshot, however, makes clear for the first time that Kratos's involvement in the story extends beyond a fleeting appearance.

Which Kratos Is This?

The central puzzle now is the identity of the Kratos in the image. If this is the same Kratos who survives the events of God of War and God of War Ragnarök, then the question becomes when in his personal timeline this meeting occurs. Another possibility fans are considering: Kratos may have arrived in Eternity after dying himself, meaning the version of the character shown belongs to a different chapter of his life.

Sony Stays Silent

Sony has not disclosed any plot details so far, leaving the scene's significance unexplained. Fans, meanwhile, have focused not only on the unexpected location but also on Kratos's design — particularly his noticeably fuller beard.
