When the new game Fable was announced, many called it "Fable 4". However, it later became clear that it is not a continuation of Fable 3 or the earlier parts. The developers from Playground Games confirmed that the project is a reboot of the franchise.

The official website states that the new Fable is not connected to the original trilogy. "Our game retains the spirit of the classic trilogy, but this is a new beginning, not a continuation," the FAQ explains.

Few expected a direct continuation of Fable 3, which ended in the Industrial Revolution era. Where to go next was unclear. However, some thought the game might take place between previous parts, for example, between the first and second Fable. From a setting perspective, this would be possible since the history of Albion is full of gaps.

It is also confirmed that the game will not have multiplayer. This is an exclusively single-player project, unlike Fable 2 and 3, which had co-op modes, albeit with limited capabilities for the second player.
