Open Mouth, Get Fired: Ubisoft Fires Lead Designer for Publicly Criticizing Company Decisions
Ubisoft has fired David Micho-Cromp, the head of level design. The likely reason was his public criticism of the company's new rules introduced as part of a restructuring.
These changes include cutting around 200 employees at the Paris headquarters and a complete abandonment of remote work. It was this latter decision that sparked Micho-Cromp's open dissatisfaction. He had been working on the Assassin's Creed series.
Following his statements on social media, he was suspended for three days without pay and then fired.
"This decision was not mine. I won't go into details. I need time to process what happened," Micho-Cromp wrote.
In response, Ubisoft stated that respectful expression of opinion does not lead to dismissal but reminded employees of the internal Code of Conduct. "In case of its violation, we follow established procedures," the company explained.
