Wizards of the Coast Returns to the Fallout Universe with New Magic: The Gathering Cards
Two years ago, Wizards of the Coast released a themed Magic: The Gathering expansion set based on the Fallout universe, and it was quite successful. Although the set included characters and events from the game series, it hit the market a month before the premiere of the popular TV show, so actors from the series were not featured. This situation will be rectified by the end of this month.
Wizards of the Coast has announced the release of four "Secret Lair" drops, once again dedicated to the world of Fallout. One of them will be entirely devoted to the stars of the TV series. In this drop, players will see cards featuring key show characters — The Ghoul, Maximus, and Lucy. Lucy will not only get her own personal card but will also appear on two others: on Spirit Mantle, she is depicted exiting the Super Duper Mart in her Vault-Tec jumpsuit, and on Pre-War Formalwear — in the chaos of the cornfield on the night of her wedding. Maximus will also appear twice; besides his personal card, his image is used on the T-60 Power Armor card.
In addition to references to the series, fans can expect a collection of five cards based on Fallout: New Vegas. It includes Benny, Joshua Graham, the Platinum Chip, the Custom Caravan Deck, and the Sunset Sarsaparilla Vending Machine. As is often the case in the Secret Lair series, the developers took the path of reimagining already existing cards while preserving their mechanics. For example, the Sunset Sarsaparilla Vending Machine works similarly to the Nuka-Cola Vending Machine from the main Fallout set: it provides Food tokens that can be turned into Treasures.
Among other novelties is the return of Dogmeat across five new cards. One of them is particularly notable: an analog of Sol Ring, designed as a dog's water bowl. Furthermore, the Rad Secret Lair drop will present cards on the theme of mutants and mutations, including The Wise Mothman.
All these new items will be part of the Rad Superdrop, scheduled for release on January 26th.
