Elite Dangerous to Add Group Missions and Prepare Major Overhaul

The developers of Elite Dangerous have published a new dev diary, sharing their plans for the near future. The main news is that a new "Operations" mode will be added to the game in April of this year. This feature was originally planned for the end of 2025, but its release has been moved up.

Operations are group missions that can be completed both in ships and on foot. Initially, tactical missions of varying difficulty are promised, with the list to expand later.

The fourth phase of updates will begin in the fall of 2026, and it will be much more extensive. The developers hinted at a "reboot" of a key system that affects many aspects of the game. The name of this feature is still being kept secret, but they clarified that the need for its overhaul has been brewing for a long time.

Furthermore, later this month the fleet will be expanded with a new model — the Kestrel MKII. This is a maneuverable ship inspired by the appearance of modern military vehicles.

The game is already 12 years old, but it continues to receive regular updates: just in recent years, Elite Dangerous concluded a massive two-year war with an alien threat and introduced a guild system.
