EVE Online received an in-game AI assistant Aura Guidance to help newcomers

CCP Games announced the launch of a new assistance feature in EVE Online — Aura Guidance. It is an “AI-powered assistance feature” implemented as an in-game chat tool designed to make life easier for rookie capsuleers.

The main idea is simple: to give newcomers quick answers to questions about basic mechanics, interface, and early-stage progression without forcing them to search for guides outside the client.

Aura Guidance is in development and, according to CCP, is based on a dataset of nearly six million messages from the Rookie Help channel. The system analyzes the player’s context — current location, the ship used, and other game parameters — to offer relevant hints. At the current stage, the assistant is primarily focused on early gameplay and introductory aspects of mastering the New Eden universe.

Access to the feature will be granted gradually. Developers are applying A/B testing: some players will receive Aura Guidance, while others will continue getting acquainted with the game through the standard onboarding. This approach will allow CCP to evaluate the assistant’s impact on newcomer retention and the overall perception of training.

Interestingly, CCP emphasizes separately that Aura Guidance is not a generative AI. Nevertheless, by description, the tool resembles familiar text-based AI chat systems that generate responses based on extensive knowledge bases.

The launch of Aura Guidance is part of the EVE Evolved initiative — a series of recent updates to EVE Online. Previously, developers introduced interface changes for better compatibility with various screens, as well as improved color identification of corporations. In the future, CCP is also preparing more large-scale innovations, including the Theatres of War system, which aims to make combat activities more understandable and engaging for a wide audience.
