MMORPG Embers of the Uncrowned Developers Reveal Details of the Upcoming Project
The devs behind the MMORPG Embers of the Uncrowned answered a pile of community questions — everything from the Steam Next Fest demo to control options, PvP plans, guild features, and more.
Demo / Schedule / Access
Q: When will it be possible to play the demo? What does “soon” mean? A: Soon — the playable demo goes live as part of Steam Next Fest, which kicks off on June 15.
Q: When will signup open for beta or alpha testing? A: No separate alpha/beta signups to announce right now. Our current focus is the demo; we’ll share info on later tests if/when devs decide to run them.
Q: Will it be possible to play the demo with friends? A: Yes. Choose the same Realm and you can team up. Co-op appears in raids, the arena (PvP), and in open-world activities.
Platforms / Regions / Technical Support
Q: Will there be support for 4K, DLSS, and 60 FPS? A: 4K and DLSS are supported. As for 60 fps — that depends on your rig and settings; we aim for smooth fps on capable hardware but cannot guarantee a specific number for every setup.
Q: Will the game be released on Nexon Launcher? A: No final call on the Nexon Launcher yet.
Game World / Story / Project Identity
Q: Is the game closer to Lost Ark, Path of Exile, Diablo, or more like WoW and FFXIV? A: EOTU is an isometric action MMORPG. Combat leans on basic attacks mixed with skill combos, plus dodging and movement to stay alive. There’s a stun mechanic — when a boss’s stun bar breaks you get a window for big burst damage. Yes, you’ll notice familiar MMO traits here and there, but the pacing, encounter density, and feel are tuned to our own rhythm. At the core is an isometric MMO approach: resource decisions and class builds matter, and we’ve shaped those systems to fit how fights play out in EOTU.
Q: Does the game take place in the Mabinogi or Vindictus universe? A: No — this is an original setting. The story follows an illegitimate heir of the fallen Harborwell house, whose lands were wrecked during an elven invasion; your task is to reclaim the continent and push back the elves.
Controls / Combat System
Q: Will there be auto-combat? A: No. Combat is fully manual — you’ll be making decisions in each fight.
Q: Will WASD controls be supported? A: Yes. WASD is the default control scheme. Despite the iso camera you can rotate by holding RMB. Default skills use Q, E, R, T, F.
Q: Will mouse controls be supported? Can key bindings be changed? A: Click-to-move works and key binds are highly customizable. Most buttons can be reassigned via the UI.
Q: How does the aiming system work? A: Abilities and basic attacks target whatever is under your cursor. Using a gamepad brings aim assistance toward the direction your character faces.
Q: What type of camera will the game have? A: The primary view is isometric; in certain situations the camera becomes more dynamic to highlight action.
Multiplayer / Co-op / Matchmaking
Q: How many players are intended for different modes? A: Raids are designed around 2–3 players. Arena is 2v2. The open world isn’t capped strictly, but content is balanced for roughly ten players in the same area so you don’t have to wait ages to group up.
Q: Will there be solo or duo raid and dungeon runs? A: The demo’s raid dungeons are 2–3 players only. We plan to add easier, solo-friendly dungeons before full release.
Q: Will there be matchmaking for raids and world bosses? A: Yes — matchmaking is active for raids and the arena. Realms within the same region can play together.
Q: Will it be possible to see and interact with other players in the world? A: Chat and emotes are in the demo. We’ll expand social tools and interaction options later.
PvE / Endgame / Progression
Q: What will the endgame be like? What about PvP? A: Endgame is still being finalized. For now we can say progression and late-game rewards are reachable through raids and PvE; there won’t be gear locked solely behind PvP.
Q: How deep will the skill system be? A: The Talent System is our skill tree. Attributes unlock or alter abilities, and Skill Gems let you tweak how skills behave. Each class has two primary branches that change playstyle significantly, and even passives must be equipped rather than merely unlocked. Try a few classes and build paths in the demo to see how different choices feel.
Q: Will there be daily and weekly quests? A: The demo has some daily missions, but we’re not enforcing strict timers in this test — play at your own pace.
PvP / Guilds / Open World
Q: What kinds of PvE and PvP content will be available? A: In the demo you can tackle world bosses with others. Open-world PvP is not part of the test version.
Q: What PvP modes and guild systems are planned? A: The Steam Next Fest demo shows PvE and an instanced PvP arena (2v2). Guild features are not included in June’s demo; a full guild system is slated for the global release.
Q: Will there be equipment and stat equalization in PvP? A: Arena matches are instanced and loss carries no open-world penalty. Equipment affects base stats, but we include a balancing layer to narrow differences between players. We’re also looking at larger-scale PvP modes for future updates.
Q: Will there be forced PvP? A: No.
