Daniel Vávra to Work on Kingdom Come: Deliverance Adaptation — New Warhorse Game Will Be Made Without Him

The creative director of Warhorse Studios, Daniel Vávra, is transitioning to a new role. As reported by the Czech outlet CzechCrunch, Vávra will not be involved in the studio's new game, as he will be working on an adaptation of Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

As explained by Warhorse Studios CEO Martin Frývaldský, the team has long been striving to expand the Kingdom Come: Deliverance brand beyond video games. This is being done through comics, concerts, and tourism, but the idea of making a film attracts the developers the most.

That is precisely why Daniel and I are working to bring Kingdom Come: Deliverance to the big or small screen. We have a draft script. <…> Filmmakers are showing interest, and negotiations are already underway. But we don't just want to sell the rights; we want the film to be exactly as we envision it.

Frývaldský assured that Vávra's decision is not related to any disagreements within Warhorse. Yes, he will not be steering the production of the new Warhorse game, nor will he be at the studio every day, but Vávra himself wanted to move forward — it was he who drafted the script for the adaptation.

He has made three games that achieved worldwide fame, and he has long been looking for a new challenge for himself. In the coming years, we want to bring Kingdom Come to the big and small screens — this is our next big goal, and now it's Dan's task. Yes, you won't see him in the office every day now, but in a broader sense, he is still part of Warhorse. <…> Essentially, Daniel Vávra's new position can be called a transmedia director.

What could the Kingdom Come: Deliverance adaptation be like? Will it retell the game's story or present something new? According to Frývaldský, the studio is considering both approaches, and since Vávra is leading the process, fans can expect a strong story. The CEO also emphasized that the film or series is not related to the cinematic cut from the game that was presented at the Karlovy Vary festival last year.

It is worth noting that rumors about a Kingdom Come: Deliverance adaptation have been circulating since the release of the first installment of Henry's adventures. For a long time, there were many interested in making a film based on the game around Warhorse, but after the coronavirus pandemic, everything stalled, shared Frývaldský: "After the sequel's release, we returned to this idea with even greater enthusiasm."
