Cygames has decided they need to fully immerse themselves in AI — a new AI studio is opening for Cygames AI Studio game developers
The Japanese company Cygames (developers of Granblue Fantasy and Umamusume: Pretty Derby) has officially announced the creation of a subsidiary — Cygames AI Studio. This new structure will focus entirely on integrating artificial intelligence technologies into the game development process. This decision is particularly interesting in light of recent statements by the heads of Larian Studios and Hooded Horse, who have distanced themselves from AI.
Cygames emphasizes the development of their own AI models. This will avoid legal and ethical copyright issues since the neural networks will be trained on the vast database accumulated by Cygames over the past 10 years, rather than on stolen internet works. The studio will develop services to help automate routine processes: asset creation, background generation, and workflow optimization, allowing creative staff to focus on more complex tasks.
Cygames is not afraid of AI but wants to fully control the process. The creation of their own studio signals to the market that major Japanese publishers see neural networks as an inevitable future but aim to make it as legal and controlled as possible.
