Cyberpunk 2077 received a third-person view - a modder added new animations and a free camera
Modder CybrDrake has published a large-scale modification for Cyberpunk 2077 called Immersive Third Person – Best Of Both Worlds that introduces a third-person camera and a suite of reworked animations while preserving the game's original first-person mechanics.
The mod's headline capability is a seamless toggle between first- and third-person views at any time while walking. Third-person uses a separate animation system; CybrDrake deliberately left the original first-person animations unchanged.
Camera functionality includes a freely rotating view with wall collision handling and smooth distance adjustment from the character. Players can save up to five custom camera profiles to set preferred positions and angles.
Animation work differs by gender: for the female version of V the author created and overhauled many motions — walking, running, sprinting, jumping, landing, swimming, sliding, dodging, climbing ladders, and vaulting over ledges — and says most of these animations were completely redone. The male V has, so far, received mostly fixes to existing animations. CybrDrake notes the mod currently performs best with a female character and plans to focus more on the male version going forward.
Immersive Third Person does not replace first-person in all situations. The mod automatically reverts to the first-person camera during combat, vehicle driving, cutscenes, terminal interactions, and other situations where first-person is required; once those situations end, the chosen third-person view is restored. The mod also remembers the preferred perspective after restarting the game.
Additional customization options let users adjust an auxiliary camera used when collecting items, fine-tune camera movement, and control the direction of the character’s head gaze.
CybrDrake emphasizes that the mod is still in development and users may encounter bugs. He tested it only with mandatory dependencies and warns about possible conflicts with other mods. For best results, he recommends starting a new game.
