Creative Director of The Blood of Dawnwalker Discussed Romances and an Active Antagonist
Creative Director of The Blood of Dawnwalker Talks About Romances and an Active Antagonist
While the Polish studio Rebel Wolves prepares new video materials for their action RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker, additional details about the project keep appearing online. This time, they were shared by Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, whom gamers may remember for his role as Lead Quest Designer on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Quest Director on Cyberpunk 2077.
Firstly, Tomaszkiewicz confirmed that the game will feature romances. It is known that the protagonist, Cohen, will be able to enter into romantic relationships that will develop throughout the game, but exactly how many characters the authors have provided for romance is unknown.
More interesting are Tomaszkiewicz's words about the main antagonist, who will actively react to the main character's actions. Recall that the central villain is the vampire Brencis, shown in the debut trailer—a former prominent Roman politician whose career in the senate was destroyed by becoming a bloodsucker.
Brencis retained his thirst for power, which motivated him to gather a vampire coterie, step out of the shadows, and begin openly ruling over mortals, creating a whole quasi-religious personality cult around himself. It is Brencis who kidnaps Cohen's family, after which the journey begins.
According to Tomaszkiewicz, Brencis will not simply sit in his castle and wait for Cohen to come for him. On the contrary, he actively reacts to the protagonist's actions depending on how Cohen chooses to fight him. Players are free to openly oppose Brencis's power almost from the very beginning, or to act covertly, seeking allies and uncovering the enemy's weaknesses.
Many games are built around a battle with an antagonist, but in them, your actions usually don't significantly affect how the villains perceive you. In The Blood of Dawnwalker, we wanted to make it so that Brencis reacts to your actions as you complete various quests in the valley and, perhaps, interfere with his plans.
If you undermine Brencis's authority, your infamy will reach him as well. The more openly you oppose him, the more decrees Brencis will issue to stop you. For example, he can send more soldiers to patrol the roads and villages. In extreme cases, he might impose a quarantine in a city to hinder your free movement within it.
