Counter-Strike 2 Receives Patch with Grenade and Sound Improvements

On the night of January 29-30, Counter-Strike 2 received a patch that improved the behavior of fragmentation grenades and knife sounds.

Full list of changes:

  • Damage from fragmentation grenades that explode in the air near the ground will no longer be calculated as if the explosion occurred on the ground.
  • Changes to knife sounds.
  • Added a method for custom maps to save modified player settings.
  • Restricted allowed console commands on custom maps.
  • The Stronghold map has been updated to the latest version from the Workshop.

Recall that Valve had previously improved the behavior of the Molotov cocktail and other projectiles:

  • Fragmentation, flashbang, smoke, decoy, and incendiary grenades received separate sounds for basic actions: drawing, inspecting, pulling the pin, and throwing.
  • A function to view another player's inventory was introduced: you can see their skins, medals, and sound packs.
  • A new item acquisition mechanic was introduced — unlocking skins via the Uplink terminal, which becomes available after opening a Sealed Genesis Terminal case.

The developers also changed the mechanics of jumping, movement, bunny hopping, and weapon sounds. Bounces no longer affect stamina, and knife attacks can now be distinguished by direction.

Previously, tournament organizers in Malta quickly responded to Valve's sudden update and decided not to switch to the current patch. The BLAST Bounty Winter 2026 matches were played on the old version of the game, and the updated Anubis will not be included in the championship's map pool. The developers released a major update on the night of January 22, changing the geometry of Anubis and adding five new maps just a few hours before the start of the games.
