Square Enix's decision to make the final part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy a multiplatform release has sparked considerable debate among fans, particularly among PlayStation console owners. The latter have "become concerned" that the need to optimize the game for less powerful hardware, such as the Xbox Series S or Nintendo Switch 2, would lead to an overall simplification of the graphics. However, the project's director, Naoki Hamaguchi, in a recent interview, was quick to dispel these fears, stating that the visual quality would not suffer "in any way." Primarily, there is nothing there to suffer.

He explained that the studio is not using a "lowest common denominator" approach. Instead of creating the game for the weakest console and then scaling it up for powerful systems, the developers have chosen the opposite path. The primary development platform is now a powerful PC. All graphical assets (textures, models, and lighting) are created at the highest possible quality and then scaled down for each specific low-power console.

According to the director, on PC and PS5 Pro, the game will look like a true "next-gen" experience, while on the junior consoles, only object density and resolution will be reduced.
