Classic DOOM Launched on a Multicooker

Our favorite column: "What else can we run DOOM on?". The classic game has once again been launched where it shouldn't be—this time on the touchscreen of the Krups Cook4Me smart multicooker. The modder preserved the appliance's main functions, turning its display into a gaming screen.

By exploring the settings menu, the enthusiast discovered signs of an ESP32 microcontroller, and after opening the device, found two modules inside: one for heating, and the other—a "brain" block with a Renesas ARM chip and 128 MB of memory. Through the debugging interface, they gained access, decrypted the firmware, and figured out how the display works.

In the end, they created a custom firmware with DOOM, mapping the controls to screen zones. According to the author, the game runs quite decently.
