Chapter Twitch: GTA 6 Online Mode Will Probably Be Released Only in 2027

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said the multiplayer component of Grand Theft Auto 6 might not arrive until 2027, and that Twitch expects an even larger audience surge when that online mode launches. Clancy made the remarks in an interview with Bloomberg and described ongoing conversations between Twitch and Rockstar about preparing content creators for the game's release.

Clancy told Bloomberg that the initial GTA 6 release should drive a “sharp increase” in Twitch viewership, but added that he expects an even bigger impact next year when multiplayer is launched.

Rockstar, however, has not formally confirmed a multiplayer mode for GTA 6. In its official messaging to date the company has presented the title as a single-player experience, previously stating: “GTA 6 offers a single-player campaign set in the largest and most deeply detailed world in the franchise’s history.”

Because Clancy discussed specific planning with Rockstar rather than speculating from the series' past performance, his suggestion that the online portion may only arrive in 2027 is being treated as a credible indication of timing.

For Twitch, GTA 6 represents a major content opportunity. Clancy expects thousands of creators to stream and post videos exploring the new Vice City and the game’s story campaign, with activity growing further after a multiplayer launch. He pointed to the social dynamics and unpredictability that characterized GTA Online as naturally suited to streaming, for example around server openings, organized challenges, and multiplayer-focused content.

A similar surge is anticipated on YouTube, where creators are reportedly readying channels devoted to the new game. Clancy’s comments also indicate that Take-Two is coordinating a launch strategy with content platforms, reflecting the significant role creators will play in promoting GTA 6.
